BIOIDENTICAL HORMONE REPLACEMENT THERAPY (BHRT)
WHAT IS BIOIDENTICAL HORMONE REPLACEMENT THERAPY (BHRT)?
Bioidentical hormones are chemically identical to the hormones naturally produced by the human body. This includes hormones like estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone. These hormones are derived from organic plant materials and are used in various forms, including bioidentical hormone replacement pellets, patches, creams, tablets, or injections.. The purpose of bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) is to help restore optimal hormone levels, particularly when the body is undergoing hormonal fluctuations or imbalances, such as those experienced during menopause or aging.

BELOW ARE TESTS WE WILL DISCUSS DOING PRIOR TO STARTING BHRT:
- Complete Blood Count (CBC): This test evaluates overall health and can detect a variety of disorders, such as anemia, infection, and many other diseases.
- Complete Metabolic Panel (CMP): This panel assesses glucose levels, kidney and liver function, electrolyte and fluid balance, and levels of protein and calcium. It gives an overview of an individual's metabolic health.
- Cholesterol Testing (Lipid Panel): Measures levels of total cholesterol, LDL (bad cholesterol), HDL (good cholesterol), and triglycerides. This helps assess cardiovascular risk.
- Hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c): This test gives an average blood sugar level over the past 2 to 3 months and is used to diagnose and monitor diabetes or prediabetes.
- Thyroid Testing: Includes tests like TSH (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone), T3, and T4 to evaluate thyroid function, as thyroid imbalances can impact hormone levels and overall health.
- Mammogram: Recommended for breast cancer screening, especially for women aged 40 and older or those with a family history of breast cancer.
- Bone Density Scan (DEXA): This test assesses bone health and helps evaluate the risk for osteoporosis or fractures, which is important, particularly when considering hormone therapies that may affect bone density.

CONDITIONS TREATED BY BIOIDENTICAL HORMONE REPLACEMENT THERAPY (BHRT)
- Menopause and Perimenopause:
As women transition into menopause, the production of hormones like estrogen and progesterone declines. This can lead to symptoms such as:- Hot flashes
- Weight gain
- Headaches
- Difficulty concentrating
- Insomnia
- Reduced sex drive
- Pellet therapy can alleviate these symptoms by providing a steady dose of bioidentical hormones, restoring balance.
- Osteoporosis:
Hormonal imbalances, particularly a decline in estrogen, can contribute to bone density loss. BHRT helps maintain bone health and reduce the risk of osteoporosis, which becomes more common with age. - Depression and Anxiety:
Hormonal fluctuations, particularly during menopause, can contribute to mood swings, anxiety, and depression. Pellet therapy has been shown to help stabilize mood, improve mental clarity, and reduce anxiety. - Hypo- and Hyperthyroidism:
Both an underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism) and an overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism) can cause a range of symptoms, including fatigue, weight changes, and memory issues. BHRT can help manage these symptoms by restoring hormonal balance.
BENEFITS OF BIOIDENTICAL HORMONE THERAPY
- Reduced Hot Flashes and Night Sweats: Many women experience a significant reduction in hot flashes within days of receiving their pellets.
- Improved Mental Clarity: Pellet therapy helps reduce brain fog, making it easier to focus and think clearly.
- Stable Moods: Hormone balance leads to more stable moods, helping to reduce anxiety, depression, and irritability.
- Increased Energy and Vitality: Many patients report feeling more energized and able to lose weight more effectively after starting therapy.
- Bone Health: Pellet therapy helps preserve bone density, reducing the risk of osteoporosis and fractures.
- Cardiovascular Protection: Restoring balanced hormones can reduce the risk of heart disease, which is heightened during menopause and aging.
- Sexual Health: BHRT can help increase libido and improve sexual function, which can be affected by hormonal imbalances.
