KETAMINE - WHERE HOPE MEETS HEALING
WHAT IS KETAMINE?
Ketamine is a medication that has been used safely for over 50 years as an anesthetic in medical settings. Originally developed in the 1970s, it is listed on the World Health Organization's list of essential medicines, which means it is considered one of the most important and necessary medications for a basic healthcare system. While it’s commonly used in emergency medicine and minor surgical procedures for pain relief, there’s an exciting new dimension to ketamine’s potential—its effectiveness as a treatment for mental health disorders, especially those resistant to conventional therapies.
Is Ketamine Right for You?
If you've been struggling with chronic depression that doesn’t seem to improve, no matter how many treatments you’ve tried, or if you’ve spent years in therapy without seeing the changes you need, you’re not alone. Many people feel stuck—whether it’s in their mental health, relationships, or career—because they haven’t yet found the breakthrough treatment that works for them. But there is hope, and it’s becoming more accessible than ever.
Millions of Americans are facing the silent struggle of depression and other mood disorders, feeling as though they’re not getting the support or solutions they deserve. But things are beginning to change, thanks to advancements in mental health treatment, specifically a cutting-edge therapy known as ketamine.

COULD KETAMINE HELP YOU?
If you’ve tried multiple medications without lasting results, or you feel like you're just not making the progress you need to in therapy, ketamine could be a powerful alternative. Research has shown that ketamine can provide fast, often dramatic improvements for people with treatment-resistant depression, sometimes within hours of the first session.
THE BENEFITS OF
KETAMINE TREATMENT
FAST-ACTING
Unlike traditional antidepressants that can take weeks to show effects, ketamine often works within hours or days, providing quicker relief.
TREATMENT-RESISTANT DEPRESSION
For those who haven’t found success with SSRIs, therapy, or other medications, ketamine may be the solution that finally makes a difference.
IMPROVED MENTAL HEALTH
Ketamine has been shown to help reset neural pathways in the brain, which can lead to a lasting improvement in mood and outlook.
HOLISTIC HEALING
Beyond just managing symptoms, ketamine can potentially help individuals reach new insights in therapy and overcome emotional blockages that may have kept them from moving forward.
IS KETAMINE RIGHT FOR YOU?
While ketamine is not for everyone, it has provided life-changing relief for those who have found other treatments ineffective. If you're ready for a new approach and want to explore whether ketamine is a good fit for your mental health journey, the first step is to consult with our clinic.
Remember, there’s no one-size-fits-all answer for mental health, but with treatments like ketamine becoming more widely available, there is now a new possibility on the horizon for those who need it most.

WHAT’S SO EXCITING ABOUT KETAMINE FOR MENTAL HEALTH?
Ketamine has emerged as a rapid-acting, highly effective treatment for treatment-resistant depression—meaning it can help people who have not found relief from traditional antidepressants or therapies. But what really makes ketamine stand out is that it works through a completely different mechanism than most other antidepressant medications, making it a game-changer for those who feel stuck in their depression.
In addition to depression, ketamine shows promise for treating Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), and potentially other mood disorders.
THE SCIENCE BEHIND
KETAMINE’S EFFECTIVENESS
Unlike typical antidepressants that focus on serotonin or norepinephrine, ketamine works by targeting glutamate, the brain’s most abundant neurotransmitter. Here’s a breakdown of how ketamine works in the brain:
ENHANCES NEUROPLASTICITY
Ketamine increases Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor (BDNF), a key hormone that promotes the growth and connection of neurons. This process, known as neuroplasticity, allows the brain to "re-wire" itself, which is critical for overcoming the effects of chronic depression. In simple terms, ketamine helps your brain become more flexible, which can break the negative thought patterns that often trap people in depressive states.
RESETS THE DEFAULT MODE NETWORK (DMN)
The DMN is the brain network that is active when we’re ruminating or engaging in negative thinking—typical in depression. Ketamine helps normalize the activity of this network, which can reduce the constant stream of obsessive and self-critical thoughts.
REDUCES BRAIN INFLAMMATION
Ketamine blocks certain receptors involved in glutamate excitotoxicity and brain inflammation. Chronic depression can lead to inflammation in the brain, which ketamine appears to counteract, providing additional relief from depressive symptoms.
These combined mechanisms lead to rapid antidepressant effects, often within hours or days of treatment, compared to traditional antidepressants that can take weeks to work.
HOW EFFECTIVE IS KETAMINE?
When antidepressants work, they can be life-saving—but the reality is that they don’t work for everyone. According to the STAR*D study, the largest study on depression treatment, most people don’t experience significant relief from their first antidepressant. Even after trying multiple medications, many still don’t find lasting relief. Unfortunately, the more antidepressants a person tries, the less likely they are to succeed. This phenomenon is known as treatment-resistant depression, and it’s a major challenge for both patients and clinicians.
That’s where ketamine has become a breakthrough. In contrast to traditional antidepressants, ketamine has shown a much higher success rate in rapidly alleviating symptoms of depression, even in people who have not responded to other treatments. Some studies have found that 70-80% of people with treatment-resistant depression experience significant improvements after just a few ketamine treatments.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

Ketamine is a fast-acting, highly effective treatment for depression and other mental health conditions like PTSD and OCD, especially for individuals who have not responded to traditional treatments.

The science behind ketamine’s action involves enhancing neuroplasticity, reducing inflammation, and resetting brain networks associated with negative thinking.

Treatment-resistant depression can be debilitating, but ketamine offers hope by providing relief when other medications fail.
WHY CHOOSE

Finding the right provider for ketamine treatment is a big decision, and at Bloom Integrative Health, we understand that the journey toward mental wellness can feel overwhelming. With so many options available, it’s important to find a clinic that offers not just the treatment, but a holistic approach to care that prioritizes your safety, comfort, and long-term well-being. Here's how we stand apart and why we might be the right place for your healing:
INVESTMENT IN YOUR LONG-TERM HEALTH
At Bloom Integrative Health, you’ll get the best care possible, tailored to your needs. We are committed to keeping costs as affordable as possible—because investing in your mental health is one of the most important decisions you can make.
HEALING SPACE WITH A SAFE, WELCOMING ENVIRONMENT
We believe that the set and setting are crucial for successful ketamine therapy. The dissociative effects of ketamine create an opportunity to access deeper parts of your mind and emotions, and it's essential to do this in a safe, peaceful, and comfortable environment. That’s why we’ve designed individual treatment rooms that are specifically created to foster healing.
Our spaces are intentionally calming, private, and comforting—designed to allow you to explore new insights and ways of understanding your depression while feeling fully supported. When you come to Bloom Integrative Health, you can expect a welcoming, nurturing atmosphere where you can feel secure and open to the therapeutic process.
PHYSICIAN ON-SITE FOR YOUR SAFETY
That’s why we have a physician and nurse on-site supervising your treatment during all ketamine infusions, ensuring you receive the highest level of care throughout your treatment. While medical emergencies related to ketamine are extremely rare, we are fully prepared to handle any situation that may arise, ensuring your safety in a medically-supervised environment. We do not condone the use of ketamine outside of a medical setting.
IV KETAMINE: THE GOLD STANDARD FOR TREATMENT
There are different ways of administering ketamine, but at Bloom Integrative Health, we prefer IV ketamine infusions, which are the most thoroughly researched and established route of administration. IV ketamine offers consistent, controlled doses and allows for more precise monitoring, making it the safest and most effective method for treating depression, PTSD, and other mood disorders.
While we are open to discussing alternative routes of administration if necessary, such as nasal or intramuscular ketamine, we generally do not recommend sublingual ketamine (oral lozenges) because the research supporting its effectiveness is limited and insufficient.
COMPREHENSIVE AND PERSONALIZED CARE
As part of your treatment, you’ll benefit from a range of integrated support services, including:
- Counseling and psychotherapy to help you process your experiences
- Mindfulness practices to promote emotional regulation and resilience
- Lifestyle recommendations to support your mental health and overall well-being

“Recent data suggest that ketamine, given intravenously, might be the most important breakthrough in antidepressant treatment in decades. First and most important, several studies demonstrate that ketamine reduces depression within six hours, with effects that are equal to or greater than the effects of six weeks of treatment with other antidepressant medications. Second, ketamine’s effects have been noted in people with treatment-resistant depression. This promises a new option for people with some of the most disabling and chronic forms of depression, whether classified as major depressive disorder or bipolar depression. Third, it appears that one of the earliest effects of the drug is a profound reduction in suicidal thoughts. ”
