By the time a diagnosis is made, many women have spent a significant stretch of time being told their symptoms are stress, depression, thyroid issues, or anxiety, and treated accordingly.
Perimenopause is not a brief interlude before menopause. For most women, it is a phase that lasts four to ten years, beginning as early as the mid-thirties. Understanding what it looks like in those early stages changes what you know to ask for and what you deserve to receive.

The common assumption is that perimenopause happens in the late forties, close to the expected age of menopause.
